Summerstrand is a very sought-after address for those seeking homes to let in Port Elizabeth – and not only because of its beachfront location.
This upmarket suburb is also very central – just 10 minutes’ drive from the airport and about the same distance from the CBD – and self-contained, with shops, good schools, entertainment and sports venues and a variety of restaurants all on the doorstep.
Homes to let here and in neighbouring Humewood include apartments, townhouses and houses, and rentals currently range from around R5000 for a one-bedroom apartment to around R29 000 for a luxury three-bedroom family home. Port Elizabeth is known as the Watersports Capital of SA, mostly because of the annual events that take place in Summerstrand, such as the Corporate Iron Man, Iron Man and Splash Festival during the Easter weekend. The blue-flag Hobie Beach is the centre of activity, hosting beach volleyball and world boardsailing championships while also being a favourite for swimming and sunbathing as it has sheltered rockpools and plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.
Pollock Beach and Kings Beach in Humewood are other popular locations for surfing, windsurfing, fishing and sailing, and Algoa Bay also offers a choice of excellent sites for scuba diving, including Postman’s Reef, Phillips Reef and Riy Banks. The Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club offers SUP (Stand Up Paddling) lessons while the Pro Dive centre at Sharks Rock Pier takes divers out daily.
