Trafalgar Birdhaven is in search of an experienced Accountant to join their dynamic team at a well-established Estate in Johannesburg.

The primary focus of the Estate Accountant is to record and report on all aspects of the Estate to ensure accurate, consistent and prompt reporting to the Financial Manager in line with world class service delivery and in accordance with the management agreement.

Minimum Experience required:-

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a financial accountant
  • Understanding of the ST Act and Companies Act
  • Understanding of the Income Tax Act and VAT Act
  • Basic accounting & IFRS principles


Responsibilities include:-

  • Analysis of General Ledger accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness and validity of information.
  • Capturing of journal entries to correct misallocations.
  • Ensuring accurate and complete income statement, Balance Sheet and cash flow forecasting reporting is performed.
  • Liaising with suppliers and Stakeholders for account queries.
  • Performing monthly recons as per supplier statements and invoices.
  • Raising the expense in the correct GL accounts as approved by HOD’s.
  • Preparing monthly adhoc & recurring payment schedule.
  • Submit recons and payment schedules to HOD’s and General Manager for payment approval.
  • Generating the membership fees invoices.
  • Liaising with Homeowners and Golf Admin on all account related queries and providing feedback and updated accounts where necessary.
  • Assist with the weekly cash up count received and cash requisitions.
  • Maintain accurate bank recons on all accounts to system balances at all times.
  • Reconcile and process re-allocations where necessary via the intercompany control accounts.
  • Manage the cardholders recon process & ensure spends are within the Policy.
  • Maintain sufficient petty cash balances.
  • Daily review of email / correspondence/ queries and attendance and resolution of same within a 24 hour time period as far as possible.
  • Assisting the finance team with all internal processes.
  • Ensuring all Trafalgar policies and procedures and Sectional Title requirements and reporting deadlines are adhered to.
  • Continuous liaising with Trafalgar and Estate staff to identify and resolve any queries.
